NYC Marathon 2014

I ran the TCS NYC Marathon last year.  You helped me raise $4226.2 for cancer research with Fred's Team! Thank you.

Fred's Team raises money for cancer research, treatment, and comprehensive patient care, all at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. You can find more information at www.fredsteam.org. Their slogan is "imagine a world without cancer." As one who studies the basic biology of cancer, has personally been treated, and has watched family and friends go through treatment, I can tell you this is important. While people often focus on the most visible aspect of cancer, the treatment, both basic research and comprehensive care are vital for patients.

Running the marathon was one of the most enjoyable things that I have done. It was also one of the hardest. And blogging and raising money wasn't that easy either. But it would have to be a rare thing indeed for me to make a trade. I guess that is why I'm doing it again, this time in Chicago.

The NYC Marathon became ridiculously fun when I was picked up by Foot Locker. I ran in their "Footlocker Five Borough Challenge." I represented all of Manhattan. I didn't win the challenge, but ran the entire first half of of the marathon with the largest grin on my face. Having the hour head start, and the road (and the screaming crowds) to ourselves was amazing. So was being passed by all the elite runners. I'm not looking forward to being a regular runner this year.
